Exemplary Programs
J. Ralph McIlvaine Early Childhood Center is home to Caesar Rodney School District’s “Littlest Riders!” McIlvaine is proud to offer students and families exemplary instructional programming that encourages families to become partners in their child’s education. Parents are invited to volunteer their time with our “Alphabet & Arithmetic Army” to support student learning throughout the building. Parents are also invited to attend monthly “Family Fun Nights” which allow parents and students to spend time together and help parents learn how they can support their child’s learning at school through at home activities. Furthermore, students entering McIlvaine also have the opportunity to participate in either Mandarin or Spanish Immersion programming which will continue through their middle school career. Additionally, McIlvaine is a proud recipient of the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant which provides summer and after school programming to further support at-risk students.

Curriculum Highlights
The Caesar Rodney School District has established a curriculum development process which supports alignment to the Common Core State Standards. This process involves teacher and administrative input through a Curriculum Cabinet and Council process. The preparation of our students as life-long learners in a global community of the 21st century society is the unifying objective of this process. The curriculum not only identifies essential knowledge and skills, but also supports students’ development in problem solving and gathering and using resources that will enable them to succeed. Each content area (English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, World Languages, Physical Education, Health, and Family and Consumer Sciences) also has an Assessment of Learning and Assessment for Learning component to support students in the learning process.
