Exemplary Programs
Academic excellence in all curricular areas is the goal of Olive B. Loss School. Our Language Arts program is research based and incorporates the principles of the Learning Focus Systems. Our classrooms provide literature rich environments in which reading is modeled and enjoyed on a daily basis. The school wide Accelerated Reader program affords students the opportunity to read a large variety of fiction and nonfiction literature at their independent reading level. Beginning in first grade, emphasis is placed on writing daily. Skills for writing across the curriculum are developed and refined through the Six Traits Model. Critical thinking and math problem solving strategies are taught using a variety of materials, including TERC and Number Talks. The Smithsonian Kits provide students with opportunities to discover and research scientific concepts in alignment with the Next Gen Science Standards.
