Exemplary Programs
The mission of Claymont Elementary School is to embrace, inspire and challenge every student every day. Each student will be individually supported and guided by a team of highly effective and committed educational professionals, caring families, and dedicated community partners in order to prepare for college, career and the responsibilities of global citizenship.

At Claymont Elementary School, the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) approach to teaching and learning helps create learning environments where a diverse body of children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The following exemplary programs have also been developed to meet the needs of the diverse students in the school: Spanish Immersion Program in Grades K-2, Gifted Enrichment Clusters in Grades 4-5, Brandywine Specialized Autism Program, Creative Mentoring, Title I Reading and Math Support, ELL Program, Band, Orchestra, Chorus, YMCA Waterwise Program, and No Bully Program.

Curriculum Highlights

Classroom instruction at Claymont Elementary is focused on teaching children to become strong readers, writers and to use mathematics effectively, while functioning successfully in a social school environment. In addition to these core areas of instruction, students receive instruction in physical education, music, art and library. They also take part in weekly counseling lessons. STEM based hands-on learning and projects in science and social studies encourage students to collect, organize, and communicate information to others.
