Exemplary Programs
Hanby Elementary is a school where we strongly believe that every child can be successful. Our students are challenged to reach their full potential academically through implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Students accomplish this in many ways. We utilize various forms of data to determine our students’ strengths and areas of concern. Through our Response to Intervention system we provide students with instruction that is aligned with specific skills. Enrichment is provided through such things as Math 24, Literature Circles and aligning the arts with the core subjects. Families are an integral part of our success. The staff and the PTA work together to provide enriching activities for students.

Curriculum Highlights
Hanby’s curriculum is research based and follows the Common Core Standards. Our curriculum includes:
• Harcourt Journeys reading series
• Eureka Math
• Smithsonian Science Kits
• Scotts Foresman Social Studies
Reading is extended through the use of the Accelerated Reading Program. Students read books and through demonstration of strong comprehension skills they earn points towards their individual goal. Technology is a major component in education. In our computer lab, students learn keyboarding and classroom skills are reinforced. Students participate in physical education, instrumental and vocal music, library and art. The curriculum enables the students to formulate various solutions and/or strategies for problem solving. The students are being taught how to think through challenging situations. They are encouraged to apply these strategies to their daily lives.
