Exemplary Programs
Frederick Douglass is adding to our PBS program this school year. We are creating components of the program for students, staff and our parents and community. Our theme this year is 'Keep Calm and N.E.D. (Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best) On! We are teaching the students about the 3 R's: Respect, Responsibility, and the Right to Learn. Students are learning what the 3R's look like in a variety of places at our school. Our school code of conduct is broken into three sections: respect, responsibility and the right to learn. Town meetings with each grade level will be held several times this year to work on team work and reinforcing our key character traits. PLC's this year are focusing on math planning and reviewing student work. Providing meaningful feedback to our students will help to increase student achievement.

Curriculum Highlights
Our focus this year is on math instruction. We are implementing the station model of the Stetson program in 5 math classes. Math professional development will be district-wide; follow-up at faculty meetings and grade level PLC. The school leadership team as well as a district consultant will provide feedback, model lessons, and will help to create a warehouse of manipulatives for our teachers to use with students. Math lesson plans will be focused on the 8 math practices and driven by the math standards . We will continue our work with Walpole for our ELA program. Teachers will make those Walpole lessons their own. Asking good questions and writing will be a highlight at faculty meetings. RTI review sessions will be held to monitor student improvement and student needs in ELA and ELL. The district is implementing a new ELL program for our ELL population. Science and Social Studies have dedicated time on the instructional schedule.
