Exemplary Programs
Central Elementary has implemented the STARS (Striving to Achieve Reading Success) program which is an after school program that targets students who need additional assistance with ELA and Math. We also have community volunteer mentors who work with students throughout the year with individual or small groups under the supervision of a certified teacher. Students participating in the program during the school year experience impressive gains in their reading and math levels.

Curriculum Highlights
Students at Central Elementary receive daily instruction in mathematics, science, language arts (reading, writing, speaking, and listening), and social studies as well as specialty areas such as PE/Health, Media, Art, and Music. Curricular resources utilized include Math in Focus, Bookworm Lessons, Strategies for Writers, and Smithsonian Science Kits. Within heterogeneous classrooms, teachers use whole group, small group and flexible grouping to meet the learning needs of students. We have an inclusive model for providing instruction to our students who receive special services.
