Exemplary Programs
Sunnyside Elementary School offers a comprehensive Common Core State Standard-based education to students in grades Kindergarten to Fourth grade in the Smyrna/Clayton area. Currently, Bridges Math and Wonders Reading series provide the materials and structure of our daily instruction. We are a Learning Focused school in our instructional approach and strategies utilized. In addition to differentiated instruction in reading, writing, math, science and social studies, offerings of music, physical education, art, library and technology round out the complete academic program for all grades. The S.T.E.P. (Smyrna Triad Enrichment Program) provides advanced, hands-on learning as a talented and gifted program. Our small group special education and support services team create and implement specialized education programs for students who are differently-abled. This includes the use of innovative and technology-driven programs such as System 44.

Curriculum Highlights
We pride ourselves in providing daily use of technology within the classrooms to advance the knowledge of our students. Sunnyside has worked tirelessly to close the achievement gap as demonstrated in state testing results.

Students are supported by our school PTO who provide funds to allow our students to attend off-site field trips and on-site assemblies. Our Smyrna Pride positive behavior program also provides the students with rewards monthly for demonstrating the district core values of Perseverance, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Compassion. We celebrate bullying awareness and prevention twice a year with weeklong events and school/district spirit with special events numerous times throughout the school year.
