Exemplary Programs
Lulu M. Ross Elementary School was recently awarded the Reimaging Professional Learning grant. This grant will afford the school the opportunity to provide ongoing professional development from the Delaware Mathematics Coalition and LearnZillion in order to improve mathematics instruction. In the past Ross has been the recipient of a Superstars in Education award applauding our utilization of the school day. This great honor recognized our school’s ability to meet Response to Intervention (RTI) federal mandates, maintain the integrity of the Milford School District selected curriculum, allow Instructional Support Time for all teachers during the school day to attain ongoing professional development, as well as foster the creative abilities of all of our students through a daily expressive arts class. We have also previously been recognized as a Blue Ribbon School.

Curriculum Highlights
The curricular focus of Ross is based on the Common Core State Standards. School based approaches include differentiated instruction, higher order thinking skills, comprehension, word study, and emphasis on the eight mathematical practices and problem solving. Student assessment is based on district benchmark assessments, STAR reading and math, and SMARTER. Our primary resources for instructing the Common Core Standards are the Journey's program by Houghton Mifflin for ELA and EnVisions by Pearson for math. School wide supplemental resources are provided to augment and individualize student instruction. These include First in Math, Study Island, Reading Eggs, Math Seeds, Accelerated Reader, and Reading A-Z. Ross utilizes the Foss and Smithsonian Science kits for science instruction. These kits are designed to provide students with a plethora of hands-on, collaborative lessons to reinforce the Next Generation Science Standards. Social Studies lessons are based on the DRC.
