Exemplary Programs
One of the many exemplary programs Banneker offers is our Positive Behavior Support Program. This program teaches the students to be responsible, express respect, safety first and teamwork. It reminds the students to do their BEST every day. This program has helped decrease issues with bus discipline and student discipline. The BEST cheer is done every morning during announcements and used to reinforce positive behaviors. This year Banneker also began a partnership with the Milford Police Department and AAA to induct our first group of Safety Patrollers. These 5th grade students, nominated by their teachers, help to monitor safety in and around our school. These students display leadership qualities and are role models for our younger students. Another exemplary program is our National Elementary Honor Society. This year 21 members were inducted into this prestigious organization. Banneker has a long history of academic excellence and this program highlights the best of the best.

Curriculum Highlights
Banneker focuses on Differentiated Instruction as an instructional method for teaching. DI fosters the teacher's ability to plan instruction to meet a variety of learning styles and academic levels during a lesson. We also implement RTI, Response to Intervention. RTI provides intervention or enrichment to all of our students based on their individual needs in reading and math. All classroom instruction is aligned to the Common Core State Standards. A challenge for this year is to deepen students' understanding of mathematics and to improve math discourse. Our teachers all have class webpages that are linked to our school site and used for instruction and communication. We are fortunate to have a very supportive school community. All of our parents attend parent conferences along with many other school wide events. We offer many curriculum related events throughout the year including open houses, Family nights, Science Fair, and Spelling Bee.
