Exemplary Programs
WHMS offers many programs to meet the needs of the diverse population it serves. In addition to the rigorous academic programs there are specialized programs for gifted learners, English Language Learners, & students requiring special education. Technology is an integral part of instruction, with the Reading Wonders & Go Math curriculums providing interactive student exercises accessible via computer & mobile devices. Read 180 is designed for struggling readers & provides a small group environment with computer-based & direct teacher instruction. Math 180 rebuilds the key progressions that struggling math students need for success with algebra & higher-level math. WHMS was awarded a Superstars in Education award in 2016 for their 21st Century STEAM program, received a Jefferson from the Mayor of Dover for the 21st Century Service Project, was awarded two Superstars in Education Awards for the Science Fair & PASS Program in 2014, and was recognized for their Tier 2 intervention of PBS

Curriculum Highlights
Every student’s daily schedule includes Reading, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and related arts instruction. The faculty has made a commitment to provide an integrated reading and writing program in which they focus on fluency, vocabulary, comprehension strategies, and the writing process. Related arts classes include consumer science, art, music, physical education and health, and technology on a nine-week rotation. The WHMS Performance Art Department offers a variety of programs that introduce students to the arts such as, drama, band, strings, chorus, dance, set construction and design, and costuming. Extra-curricular activities include programs such as Basketball, Math League, Girls on the Run, Odyssey of the Mind, Stock Market, Student Council, and Lego Robotics.
