Exemplary Programs
Nellie Stokes Elementary offers a wide array of exemplary programs to support and complement our student population. Student creativity is showcased through our Tier I Enrichment program, chorus, band, and WNHS morning news crew. Academic excellence is supported by our Leader In Me initiative, Odyssey of the Mind competition, a summer reading book drop, academic informational events, and our Gifted Education and Enrichment Program. The importance of community is taught through the various activities of our Student Council, including annual donations to the SPCA and drives to support our armed forces. Family events and activities generate much excitement and create lifelong memories. Our counselor, in conjunction with the Food Bank of Delaware, provides resources for our community members who may be in need.

Curriculum Highlights
The District has established a curriculum development process which supports alignment to the Delaware Recommended Curriculum/Common Core Standards. This process involves teacher and administrative input through a Curriculum Cabinet and Council process. The preparation of our students as life-long learners in a global community of the 21st century society is the unifying objective of this process. The curriculum not only identifies essential knowledge and skills, but also supports students’ development in problem solving and gathering and using resources that will enable them to succeed. Each content area (English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Visual and Performing Arts, Physical Education, and Health) also has an Assessment of Learning and Assessment for Learning component to support students in the learning process and to determine specific performance relative to the Common Core Standards.
