Exemplary Programs
All programs at William Penn High School support its mission statement; Preparing Young Citizens for College and Careers. With the approval of Colonial’s Race to the Top plan, the District is redesigning programs and curriculum at William Penn to be a college type atmosphere with schools within a school, focused on a 21st Century education. A number of Major Courses of Study will be offered within each “School.” Every Major Course of Study will incorporate literacy across the content, 21st century technology, collaborative group work, leadership development, College seminar and Honors/AP/Dual Enrollment options. Students will apply to a “School” and a Major Course of Study prior to entering WPHS. Every 9th grade student will have a 4 year plan with a post high school college, training, or career plan. Every student will take the SAT and complete a college application and a financial aid application.

Curriculum Highlights
As part of the redesign of William Penn High School, the Colonial School District has expanded the Air Force Junior ROTC as well as the Culinary program, and is partnering with Delaware Greenways’ Penn Farm project which will offer an array of real world experiences for a vast number of students. William Penn continues to provide a four-year comprehensive high school designed to prepare students for further formal education or the workplace with the understanding that lifelong learning will be a necessity for all. Through 13 departments, we are able to offer interesting and relevant courses designed to meet the individual needs of a diverse student population. Rigorous academic courses prepare students for entrance to college with Honors and Advanced Placement courses available in the core subjects.
