Curriculum Highlights
Southern Elementary School has three main areas of focus:
1. Implementing a Common Core aligned curriculum that is designed to prepare students to experience success on the Smarter Balanced Assessments. This curriculum is also designed to ensure that all students are “College and Career Ready” when they graduate from William Penn High School.
2. Implementing Responsive Classroom Strategies to create a “Safe and Joyful Learning Community.”
3. Ensuring that all students experience success on a daily basis in an inclusive setting.
During weekly PLC meetings, our teachers analyze student achievement data, and they use this data analysis to inform their instruction in the Core and during ELA and Math RtI. The Southern Leadership Team implements the Observation/Feedback program with teachers on a weekly basis. This program provides job-embedded professional development opportunities for teachers regarding research-based instructional strategies.
