Exemplary Programs
Wilbur Elementary has an excellent staff dedicated to inspiring Wilbur students to excellence. Student success is our goal! In 2015, Wilbur was chosen as a National Model School through the International Center for Leadership in Education. We were also selected as a State of Delaware Recognition School by the Department of Education—one of 13 schools in the state. A focus on higher-level thinking skills, creativity, and problem solving is prevalent in our classrooms. By having high behavioral and academic expectations, our teachers provide children with a firm foundation upon which they can build a lifetime of learning. Our belief is that students must have a high engagement rate in their daily learning in order to maximize their potential. Therefore, a wide variety of instructional strategies, including Kagan Cooperative Structures, are planned throughout the curriculum to address many different types of learning styles.

Curriculum Highlights
At Wilbur Elementary, we strive to make learning fun for our students while stretching them to learn at their highest potential. We believe that perseverance, hard work, and great character are the foundations for success both in life and in school. During monthly iCommunity (inspiring community) meetings, students participate in activities that build our school-wide culture of positive mindset and strong character. Even in our cafeteria at lunchtimes, students are engaged in problem solving and fun activities that link to the monthly success trait.
With our STEM Lab and MakerSpace, we are able to excite students about learning in a unique way! For at least one week each marking period, each class goes to STEM during their specials period. Students work with engineering principles and complete hands-on experiments. Instructional technology is used in all classrooms to enhance learning.
