Exemplary Programs
Pleasantville Elementary School provides children with a firm foundation upon which they can build a lifetime of learning. Our belief is that students must be truly involved and engaged in their daily learning in order to promote success. Therefore, a wide variety of instructional activities are offered throughout the day to address the needs of many different types of intelligences and learning styles. Both reading and writing are integrated throughout all subject areas, and students are able to show that they have learned in a variety of informal, formal, and performance-based assessments. Students are encouraged to work together cooperatively while developing higher-order thinking skills and problem-solving techniques. Our teachers are well versed in understanding the Common Core Standards and what students need to master within their grade level content.

Curriculum Highlights
A wide variety of academic programs are available to meet students' instructional needs and help them to develop their potential. Pleasantville's students have the opportunity to experience hands-on, inquiry-based instruction in Math, Reading, Social Studies, and Science. Pleasantville have implemented the Daily5/Daily 3 structure which allows teachers time to conference one-on-one with individual students. Our district has adopted a differentiated instruction approach to teaching reading and math through the implementation of small, needs-based groups, brief focus lessons, and structured center activities. Our teachers receive on-going staff development and training opportunities in all subject areas. Pleasantville's staff is dedicated to providing support services to assist students both academically and socially throughout the school day. As a Responsive Classroom (RC) school, our counselor provides individual and group counseling sessions following the principles of RC.
