Exemplary Programs
West Park provides quality instructional programs for students in grades K-5. In 2011, we received the National Blue Ribbon School designation from the US Dept. of Ed. for consistent student achievement. In 2014, we were designated a Recognition School by the Delaware Dept. of Ed. for closing achievement gaps. Aligning instruction with Common Core State Standards helps us to focus on providing rigorous instruction across all grades. Writing across the curriculum is implemented beginning in kindergarten. Foss Science kits enable students to engage in scientific research. Students learn about local and global communities through Smithsonian supported lessons. Advanced Academic Programming exposes students to lessons in critical and creative thinking strategies. In grades 3-5, students demonstrating advanced academic aptitude receive expanded instruction from a certified Gifted/Talented teacher and can participate in Lego League, Science Olympiad, and Meaningful Economics competition.
