Exemplary Programs
At McVey, character building is considered an integral part of a student's education. Our Culturally Responsive Positive Behavior Support program offers students the ability to model exemplary behavior as a part of the school environment. We demonstrate our BEST rules daily by Being Respectful, Everyone Cares, Safety Counts and Taking Responsibility. We reward good behavior through Dragon Dollars for item shopping at our PBS Rewards Cart, special celebrations, sitting at our Maui Table at lunch and other school-wide and classroom incentives. We use these rewards to motivate our students in making good choices and in becoming role model students. Our fifth graders can become Safety Patrol members by displaying our McVey BEST rules throughout the year. McVey's band, strings and choral programs, as well as, our McVey Talent Show are highlighted during the year in order to display non-academic talents. We pride ourselves in fostering a love for the arts.

Curriculum Highlights
McVey Elementary School boasts several exceptional curricular programs. Our Balanced Literacy program provides additional reading time in a small group setting for students who are below standards in reading. Reading specialists work on fluency and comprehension skills. Our classroom teachers also incorporate Writer's Workshop into our literacy program. Our mentoring program provides students with one-on-one attention in the basic skills areas. Students are paired with an adult volunteer to work on various academic needs of the student. Our Advanced Academic program helps to create lessons that are highly motivating and challenging. Our Math Connects program offers a systematic approach to learning mathematic concepts and applications. This year, we proudly announce our partnership with the International Literacy Association to enhance literacy across the subject areas.
