Exemplary Programs
Maclary staff provides opportunities for students to participate in advanced academics and enrichment classes, instrumental lessons, curriculum related field trips, and assemblies. Special education services are provided based on individual student need and foster inclusion in the general curriculum as appropriate. Struggling students have additional opportunities for support through reading resource, mentoring, and flex and intervention groups. Maclary Staff uses the Positive Behavior Support Program in order to foster students' responsibility for their education and behavior. PTA provides financial support for PBS rewards, birthday books, field trips, assemblies, recess equipment, and activities that support all students. Parents and Staff publish our monthly newsletter and annual yearbook; provide monthly evening activities; operate school events; and maintain our family atmosphere. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in their children’s education by volunteering.

Curriculum Highlights
Curriculum is designed to ensure that all students meet/exceed state standards in all subject areas. Maclary implements a daily literacy block offering students a diverse approach to reading and text-based writing. The use of our classroom libraries fosters a love of reading and improves student fluency. Math Connects Program is used at all grade levels. Students explore methods for problem solving; use manipulatives to facilitate understanding of numbers, number sense, and computation; communicate mathematically; and learn to relate Math to daily life. Science lessons at all grade levels are presented using the Smithsonian kits. Students at each grade level explore three or four topics extensively through experimentation. Staff teaches students a variety of graphic organizers to aid in the development of writing skills. Comprehensive staff development and Professional Learning Communities are on-going to ensure that staff continue to use best practices.
