Exemplary Programs
There are exemplary programs implemented in all grades at Brookside. The curriculum has been enhanced through continued use of technology, which is upgraded on a regular basis. There are interactive Smart Boards, document readers, and computers in each classroom that help to build background knowledge and engage students. Programs that focus on the social and emotional well-being of students include school-wide Culturally Responsive Positive Behavior Support, a Family Crisis Therapist, a Guidance Counselor, and collaboration with outside agencies. Other programs include Student of the Month Assemblies, Academic Assemblies, Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids Garden, and Geography Week. Brookside also has partnerships with parents and local businesses that provide volunteers and donations to our students.

Curriculum Highlights
Brookside Elementary uses a standards-based curriculum that is aligned with current state standards (DE Recommended Curriculum) and Common Core State Standards (national). The current ELA series is Houghton-Mifflin Journeys and for mathematics we use Macmillan’s Math Connects. Science utilizes the Delaware Science Coalition Smithsonian and Foss kits. Social Studies is supported by Delaware Social Studies Units and Harcourt Brace. Teachers differentiate instruction to meet the needs of our students through Response to Intervention. Field trips that are curriculum related include the Delaware’s Aquatic Resource Center and the DuPont Environmental Center, The Wilmington and Philadelphia Zoo, JA Biztown, and various other academic program presentors that come to Brookside.
