Along with academic courses that prepare students for college and post-secondary pursuits, Howard offers career & technical programs in the areas of computer technology, healthcare services, construction trades, financial services, auto and engine technology, legal administrative and support services, cosmetology, and culinary arts. Howard students participate in co-operative education at paid work placements in hundreds of businesses in the region. As Delaware’s first public high school to provide an iPad to every student, Howard expects its students to continue learning beyond the school day. Curriculum Highlights
Howard provides an integrated career & academic curriculum that prepares students to be career and college ready. It offers a choice of 13 competitive Career Programs of Study, each one partnered with an advisory group of business representatives. Throughout their four years, students receive highly specialized instruction in their chosen career program where they learn and demonstrate specified competencies, which leads to a career certificate upon graduation in addition to earning a high school diploma. Career programs offered at Howard include: Academy of Finance & Business, Auto/Diesel Technology, Building Automation Systems, Carpentry, Computer Network Administration, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Dental Assisting, Engine Technology, Legal Administrative Assisting, Legal Support Services, Medical Assisting, and Nursing Technology. The school's rigorous curricula in English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Spanish are aligned with common core state standards.
