Exemplary Programs
Wm. C. Lewis Dual Language Elementary is an Immersion Magnet recognized by the Embassy of Spain as School of the Year for Academic Excellence in Spanish during 2015. Lewis was profiled by the U.S. Department of Education for effective strategies with English Language Learners.

Family engagement is a priority for Lewis. There is a wide range of programming to build the home-school connection. Offerings include Spanish and English classes for parents, the Back to School Block Party, the Saturday Family Literacy Series, the My Very Own Library literacy initiative, the Annual Family Dinner Dance, Immersion Information Evenings, Parent Education Events, Bedtime Stories, and many more PTA events.

Curriculum Highlights
Lewis is a two-way Dual Language Program in grades K-5. Providing instruction 50% of the day in English and 50% of the day in Spanish. Included in the model are Spanish language Music and Art classes. Children’s first language develops while introducing the second language, thereby improving language acquisition. Instruction is focused on content, language, and cultural objectives. Lewis students are pioneers of the Governor's World Language Immersion Program.

At Lewis, there are several programs designed to support and enrich students’ curricular experiences such as Reading Soccer, Yoga, Legos, Bricks, Spanish Drama, Spanish Traditional Dances, Girls on the Run, Reading Rockets, Math Enrichment, Youth in Government, Student Council and more. Students also participate in TAG classes in grades 1-5.
