Curriculum Highlights
Balanced Literacy Program gives students strategies to be successful independent readers and writers, who think deeply and communicate well. Instruction is designed to enhance students' decoding, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. Our mathematics program focuses on giving students the tools they need to be independent problem solvers, who are able to communicate mathematically as they develop solutions in real-world contexts. Conceptual understanding is emphasized, and students work collaboratively using manipulatives as appropriate, as they learn basic computation skills. Our inquiry-based science curriculum provides opportunities for hands-on investigation and experimentation as students interact with the natural world. The four strands of the K-5 Social Studies curriculum include: civics, economics, geography and history. Participation in our Unified Arts--Art, Music, Physical Education, and Library classes--is critical to developing a well-rounded student.
