At Mount Pleasant Elementary School, the Responsive Classroom approach to teaching and learning helps create learning environments where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Practical strategies are utilized to bring together social and academic learning throughout the school day, and focus is on classroom management, which increases instructional time while building a caring, social community for learning. The Responsive Classroom approach includes daily Morning Meetings, Guided Discovery, Rules with Logical Consequences, Classroom Organization, Academic Choice, and Assessment and Reporting to Parents.

Curriculum Highlights
Classroom instruction at Mount Pleasant Elementary is focused on teaching children to become strong readers, writers and to use mathematics effectively, while functioning successfully in a social, school environment. In addition to these core areas of instruction, students receive computer instruction, physical education, music, art and library instruction. Hands-on learning and projects in science and social studies, encourage students to collect, organize, and communicate information to others. The topics of study focus on the State of Delaware Standards and the DE Recommended Curriculum.
